After reading “Cavernous”, the main story written by Devin Grayson in Batman: Gotham Knights #18, I couldn’t help but think about doing my own spin of the short story. Starring my own versions of Batman and Aquaman (well, Aquawoman, in my version), I took it as a challenge to illustrate the dynamic friendship between the two heroes with a smaller page limit.
Although the initial plan was to do the comic story, this fan comic eventually grew into creating a complete publication. It was a blast to emulate and give tribute to the cover art, the series masthead, logos, and the Oxy Balance advertisement originally present in the old 2001 comic book issue I own, as well as taking my own creative liberties!
This was a rewarding experience to make, and was a great exercise of comic-making, publication design, and typography. It was a blast putting together this publication I would personally dub “Batman: Gotham Knights #18 from a Parallel Universe”!
